Winterwood

In the glittering Venetian opera house, the young English girl in her borrowed finery caught the attention of the little child and her father in the neighbouring box. Next day, the romantic enchantment of the evening is past, but for Lavinia and the crippled child feeding the pigeons in the Piazza, a new enchantment is just about to begin, and with it a story of jealousy and passion, deception and violence, trust and true love.

So we come back from Venice to Victorian England and Winterwood, the house where Lavinia must strive to bury her past and learn to seize the slender threads on which hangs her future happiness.
