A Phantom Lover: And Other Dark Tales (British Library Tales of the Weird)

Be prepared to enter a unique and unsettling world in this new collection of dark fantasies from the unparalleled imagination of Vernon Lee. These are tales of lonely souls possessed by recurring tragedies of the past, holy sanctuaries disrupted by unruly pagan forces and aspiring youths enthralled and consumed by the undying art of their ancestors.

From the modernised folktales “Marsyas in Flanders” and “The Legend of Madame Krasinska” to ingenious psychological hauntings such as “A Phantom Lover” and “Amour Dure”, Lee’s captivating voice rings out just as distinctively now as in her fin-de-siècle heyday.
