Dan McGill is a Chicago detective back in the early 1940’s. He was promoted to Sargent after shooting three criminals, each a separate incident, who were caught in the act. After his promotion, the Chicago Mob wanted to put him on their payroll however he refused. This decision led to the murder of his friend, Charlie Hart, who was also a police officer and cooperating with the Mob. Dan stepped into the crime scene and shot the two men responsible. He also went after their father, the current Mob boss and afTer shooting him with his own gun, took two suitcases out of his car and walked off with three million dollars. McGill then left Chicago and went to Seattle where he enlisted in the Army following Pearl Harbor. Because McGill was an expert shot, he was put into a special Army unit. This novel covers his activities in Chicago and his military training.
