A Mail Order Groom

Christmas was only three weeks away, and Duane Wilson had sent a telegram back to Ellen explaining that he had been injured in the Civil war and walked with a limp. It prevented him from dancing, but not from being a devoted parent or a loving husband. He loved children and had always wanted a family of his own to nurture and love. He would be happy to come now or wait until she had time to think about whether she could live with his disability. It would take 2 full days to get there by stagecoach, and another day to purchase a horse and ride out to her home.
