The Heart of the Serpent : A Tale of Nilas Greythorn (The Crescent Saga)

Nilas Greythorn never sought power, and when it is offered, he refuses to let it decide for him.
Marked by a lunar sanctum that answers only to consent, Nilas becomes something dangerous in a world that prefers a man who will not dominate, even when domination would be easier.
At his side walks a Moon-Kissed Beast, ancient, watchful, and bound not by command, but by shared presence.
As rumors spread of a “marked man who refused dominion,” belief hardens into action.
Villages burn.
Cultists gather.
The Serpent Below stirs, not to command Nilas, but to watch what refusal becomes when the world cannot tolerate it.
Every choice costs more than the last.
Power answers hesitation.
Restraint endangers those he loves.
And there is no clean path forward, only the decision to remain human when certainty demands surrender.
This is not a story of destiny fulfilled.
It is a story of agency preserved.
When war comes, it will not be because Nilas chose power—but because he refused to let it choose for him.
The Heart does not end here.
