Prince Redley is fifteen, heir to two thrones, and has done nothing to earn either of them.

His father has survived an assassination attempt and gone to ground in the far north. His mother has forbidden the journey. So Redley steals a flask of medicine and goes anyway.

His allies are a spy with a drinking problem, a bodyguard running from his past, and a plump orange cat with inexplicably good timing. They have one horse, no money, and fourteen days to cross a kingdom that's tearing itself apart.

Redley will have to decide what kind of man he wants to be. But first, he must survive.
