Sit Tight (Keeping It In #8)

I was sent to Station 9 to find out which firefighters were getting people killed.

A string of suspicious fires. Slow response times. An anonymous tip and a fire marshal who wants a name by the end of the month—preferably one from Captain Rhett Connolly's house.

Rhett is six-foot-four of stubborn, the kind of captain his crew would follow into anything, and he does not want some investigator poking at his people. We argue for four days. On the fifth, he has me up against his desk while the station sleeps—and when the bell drops mid-shift and he has to go, he holds me right where I am, says sit tight, I'll be right back, and walks into the dark.

Here's the problem. The fires are set. I can prove it. And the proof points straight at a man who used to wear the uniform—someone burning the city to frame the captain who washed him out.

If I tell the truth, I torch my own career. If I tell the easy lie, good people take the fall.

I've spent my whole life walking toward the fire. This time I'm not walking away from what's on the other side of it.

Sit Tight is a steamy, blue-collar firefighter instalove standalone with a big protective grumpy captain, a sharp investigator who can't be bought, a real catch-the-arsonist mystery, size difference, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after. He falls first—and he always comes back.
