Open House (Bred by Men #3)
Overview
I came here to be alone, and I was okay with that.
That was the whole plan: get a small rental with a covered porch, meet my deadlines, and fall apart where no one could see me. My ex took the coffee maker on his way out the door, and I sat in a Walgreens parking lot crying over a single-serve appliance. So I picked a street where no one knew me, a place to start over.
I'd only brought three boxes in before the man who owns the place started helping me.
Cal is fifty-one, a widower, and almost like a leader around here. He doesn't ask before he steps in, and he doesn't have to. He still wears his wedding ring, long after his wife died. He is never going to take it off, and I would think less of him if he did.
Wes is Cal's handyman and go-to lawn guy. He's charming, handsome, easy, and before I know it he's helping me carry my sofa inside.
Theo and Will live next door and have been married for eleven years. A NICU nurse who cries at dog commercials and an art teacher who notices everything. In the back of their house is a room they stopped painting years ago, a door they haven't opened since, to a nursery that will always be empty.
Four men. Every one of them wants me.
What I get instead of the quiet I came for: a rotted fence post set in fresh concrete. A capacitor replaced before I knew it was dying. A tax bill quietly paid by a man who's more of a doer than a sayer. And four men who look at me like I'm the answer to a question they'd all stopped asking.
I keep waiting for one of them to make me choose.
I keep waiting for it to tear me apart. To split me four ways and leave me heartbroken.
Nobody makes me choose.
I came to this street to take up as little room as possible, and not one man on it is going to let me get away with that.
A why-choose contemporary romance with four men, the married couple next door, and a heroine who moved in to need nobody. MFM and MMF. HEA, no cliffhanger, babies on the page.
