What, No Wand?

Joanna Keston knew she was different when she was four years old. It was all because of her bicycle. Robert, her younger brother by nearly two years, had reached that annoying stage that all boys go through, you know - from birth to seventy-six years old.
Despite her repeatedly telling him it was wrong to take her stuff without asking, Robert did not seem to be equipped to take it in (he was just two, after all). He decided to take her new bicycle without asking. She felt it was reasonable to teach him a lesson in manners.
Her mother did not seem to appreciate that Jo had done it for his own good, but perhaps it was just as well she had not yet perfected her craft. Nevertheless, the spell did not last very long and her mother was sufficiently adept to cause Robert to forget that his older sister turned him into a toad for a few minutes.
Fast forward by a couple of decades and Joanna is now a very attractive and intelligent young lady attending Allanbridge University where she is doing very well. She is in line to obtain a First Class Honours degree and there appeared no limit to her ambitions. She is also very careful not to display she is specially ‘gifted’ and living amongst so many ‘normals’.
Amongst her year group is one Richard Hillyard who is not as studious or abstemious as Joanna. Indeed, Richard’s sole ambition in life is to get laid before his twenty-first birthday, which is looming rapidly. Richard is (and he would probably admit it) a bit of a slob and so his degree of attractiveness to women is somewhat reduced by his unkempt appearance, couch-potato lifestyle and his desperation to get laid.
It is a moment of anger – by both parties. Richard shouldn’t have been a jerk, but then Jo perhaps shouldn’t have cast a spell to transform Richard into a girl. He had no remorse for his behaviour, but Joanna felt so guilty that she immediately attempted to counteract and reverse the spell – something she now knew how to do after her Brother’s experience.
Unfortunately, she found she couldn’t. Something or someone is preventing it and it is far more powerful than she is.
