“So are you excited about the big four-oh?”

I am getting so sick of that question.

In one month, the unthinkable will happen:

I will turn 40.

As much as I’m dreading it with every fiber of my being, it could be worse. For the first time in a long time, my life is good. I’ve got a fiancé who is planning a fabulous 40th birthday party for me. Two beautiful children. A job that I adore.

Oh, and an ex-husband who hates my guts.

That couldn’t be further from the truth. She was the girl of my dreams, and for a short time, I had her and everything I ever wanted. Then one day I was biking down Fifth Avenue, a car slammed into me, and I lost it all.

Now Audrey is marrying another guy. My kids are going to call that asshole their stepfather. She’s supposed to walk down the aisle with him.

Yeah, not if I can help it.
