Troublemaker (DS Charlie Young #1)

When DS Charlie Young, who has worked on some of London’s biggest murder cases, arrives at his new place of work in the small Welsh town of Monmouth, his new boss warns him that the ‘big cases’ won’t come round as frequently as he is used to. Charlie is frustrated — it hadn’t been his choice to relocate.

But just hours into his new job, a woman is reported missing, and the following day, her body is found — Charlie quickly finds himself working on a case unlike any other he has worked on before.

The woman in question, Kelly Daniels, had moved to Monmouth two years previously. A much loved mum, wife, and friend — it doesn’t take Charlie long to learn that she’d made her mark on the town, and not always for the right reasons.

From upsetting a fellow mum at the local book club, to making an awful accusation about a retired school caretaker — Kelly had been making so many people’s lives a misery.

For DS Charlie Young, the question is, with several of them having been drinking in the same pub as Kelly on the night she had been killed, which one finally snapped?
